"What're you in for?" "Cussing."

A bill now in the South Carolina state Senate would make it a felony to swear in the presence of a minor. This ghastly crime would be punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 5 years.

They can secede again. We'll let them go this time.

Yeah. I'm not sure it was worth 650,000 lives the first time.

And how are they defining cussing? Could be interesting.

"Cussing" was my word. The bill talks about profanity and obscenity, which may be defined more precisely elsewhere in the state's laws.

I'd love to see the arguments in court, though. "Is 'penis' forbidden? How about 'dick'? 'John Thomas'? 'Schlong'?"

We could just start using British obscenities.

I'm not sure I would limit the secession offer to South Carolina. We could nix most of the deep South and never miss it.

TGirsch: I'd miss the food. But it's not good for you. Why, it's a metaphor!

Kristen: That reminds me, for some reason, of a Dick Francis novel in which he as an American thug growl at the hero, "Sod you."

Francis has lived part time in Florida for years, so that was a surprising error.

I like Mexican food, and I don't have to go to Mexico to get it. So I wouldn't be too worried about the food. And unless our relations with the CSA were like our relations with Cuba, we could visit -- just for the food -- if we wanted to.

Good point.

In fact, they'd probably be begging for tourists from the US, with their hard currency. If the South had managed to remain independent, and still was, I wonder what the Confederate dollar would be worth now.

TGirsch said...

I don't know what the currency would be worth, but I do know that the "rest" of the US would be complaining about illegal confederate immigrants...

Wouldn't they be easy to recognize by their accents and excessive courtesy to dignified older white people?

Holy crap!

Thanks for your comment on my page.

You are absolutely right! I have formatted the three books to be three stand alone books. Overall they are three parts to one big story, but yes they are stand alone books. I do think that they could be published as one large book, but ultimately they do actually work better as three parts.

Thanks for bringing that up.
