Friends and relatives and cancer

A week ago, a friend, a local writer named John Kennedy whom I've known for over 30 years, died of stomach cancer. It was discovered in the fall, by which time it was already well advanced. Today we learned that a brother-in-law has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to his brain. Awful.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend and your brother in-law.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Last year, we lost our long-time friend and commenter Ted to a long battle with cancer, and I also lost my uncle, age 56 or 57, to a very SHORT battle with cancer. You have my sympathies.

this will sound stupid, but... i hate cancer SO MUCH. my friend who had stage IV lymphoma in the fall had just gone into remission in january... only to have been re-diagnosed last week. if there was one thing i could change about the world...

Thanks, everyone.

He's weighing his options, but a happy ending apparently isn't one that's available.
